a horrible mistake...

we tried to make a dragon,
we weren't sure where to start.
we put some things together,
we took some things apart.
we worked for days.
we worked for weeks.
'til our voices cracked
and we couldn't speak.
we worked through our sickness,
and finally,
amidst a bloody mess,
the creature sat.
its eyes shone white.
and eerie light.
crooked, mangled claws
were the least of its flaws.
we had worked so fast, and without care,
that the life we created did nothing but stare.
it wouldn't eat.
it wouldn't sleep.
for days,
for weeks.
it looked at us.
it glared at us.
i guess this is what it takes
to realize
it was a horrible mistake...

i guess i was inspired by animal mutations, and thought of how in the future people may be able to mix species, but with consequences...
